Nutrigenetics is a branch of knowledge of nutrition that studies human genetic and uses it as a basis for nutritional and dietetic management to achieve desired health outcomes. Nutrigenetics has developed and been manifested in personal diet recommendations (personalized nutrition). Studying nutrigenetics is important for nutritionists and dietitians in Indonesia since it helps them providing dietary recommendation based on individual characteristics. Thus, the Center for Health and Human Nutrition, FK-KMK UGM will conduct online training of application of nutrigenetics for nutritionists and dietitians.

The e-Monev activity for the Recovery of the Nutrition Program from the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic was a collaboration between the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the Center for Health Policy and Management in partnership with the Center for Human Health and Nutrition (CH2N), the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK), Gadjah Mada University. This activity also involved 16 other universities that acted as assistants to 260 district/city health offices from 34 provinces in Indonesia. The e-Monev innovation was a means of monitoring and evaluation, electronic-based, by utilizing routine data that had been collected through e-PPGBM. This activity was carried out in October – November 2020 to assess how the impact of the pandemic on nutrition programs related to stunting in 260 districts/cities with stunting loci in 2020. Partner universities played a role in assisting district/city health offices in collecting data, analyzing the impact of the pandemic, writing policy strategies and policy briefs for recovery strategies for the four nutritional indicators (weighing children under five, exclusive breastfeeding, vitamin A, PMT for toddlers) from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. During the activity there were also several development activities such as qualitative data analysis and the use of the PulihCovid19 nutrition dashboard to facilitate data collection and analysis.

Lecturers/researchers at the Faculty of Public Health – Teuku Umar University in collaboration with lecturers/researchers at the FK-KMK Gadjah Mada University through the Higher Education Collaboration Research (PKPT) Higher Education Grant 2019-2020, organized the activity “Home Made MP-ASI Education for Mothers BADUTA” online via Zoom Meeting. This activity was held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 16.00 – 18.00 WIB which was attended by around 60-70 Baduta mothers in Meulaboh City, West Aceh district. This educational activity was aimed to increase knowledge about the importance of nutritional needs for pregnant women, nursing mothers and toddlers. By paying attention to specific nutritional needs (micronutrients) and macronutrients needs, it was hoped that the intake of pregnant women, nursing mothers, and toddlers can meet the nutritional adequacy rate and it will create a healthy generation. Dr. Lily Arsanti Lestari, STP., MP as a lecturer at the Faculty of Public Health UGM and the Manager of the Center for Health and Human Nutrition (CH2N) FK-KMK UGM, became a speaker or resource person in this activity. She explained Balanced Nutritional Needs of Pregnant Women, Breastfeeding Mothers, and Toddlers. In her presentation, she stated that balanced nutrition is needed for each age stage (pregnant women, busui, and toddlers) in order to support the quality of health in the future.

Stunting is one of the outcomes of nutritional status which is determined by measuring the body length of children aged 0-24 months according to their age (PB/U z-score). More in-depth examination can be done by assessing the cognitive and emotional level of the child. Untreated stunting might have a big negative impact, such as stunted growth, sub-optimal cognitive development, getting sick easily, and low productivity as adults.
This year, the Center for Health and Human Nutrition (CH2N) FK-KMK UGM developed a measuring tool for body length and early detection of stunting or called GAMA-KiDS. The Stunting Detection Kit (GAMA KiDS) is an innovative tool for measuring body length and early detection of stunting for children aged 0-24 months (Baduta). GAMA-KiDS is expected to make it easier for cadres at Posyandu (family planning center) to measure body length as well as to detect whether toddlers are classified as stunting or not.
The Stunting Detection Kit (GAMA-KiDS) consists of:
- Body Length Mat
- Nutritional Status Discs
- User Manual
The Stunting Detection Kit (GAMA-KiDS) has been tested on baduta subjects at the Posyandu Dukuh Kamal Wetan, Sleman Regency, DI Yogyakarta; Meunasah Lhee Village, Pidie District, Aceh; and Katingan District, Central Kalimantan. Currently GAMA-KiDS is in the process of patent registration with registration number P00202004432. In addition, the research team also produced a video guide to the use of GAMA-KiDS which has obtained a Copyright certificate with registration number 000191694.
Stunting indirectly contributes to the level of welfare of the Indonesian people. One of the ways to prevent and treat stunting is Early Detection.
